Dr Erica Derbyshire is a South African registered chartered accountant and Associate Professor at the University of Cape Town who specializes in accountancy ethics, governance and auditing. Erica is nationally recognized in the South African higher education sector as an education expert in accountancy ethics. She is also a proactive contributor to the foremost accountancy professional body in South Africa, the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), and the accountancy academic environment through sharing of expertise on a national scale. Erica has previously held the auditing, governance and ethics subject chair, as well as the financial accountancy-, chartered accountancy bridging course and management accountancy programme leader roles at the North-West University. She is passionate about impact research and was a nominee of the 2023 National Academy of Science of South Africa Science-for-Society (ASSAf) Gold Medal Award for applied scientific thinking in the service of society enabling the community (public) to benefit through her research in financial literacy education for small and micro-enterprise owners. She also serves as a core exam committee member for SAICA’s Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) board examination.
